TNS Infratest – what does it really mean that only a quarter of Germans are really using the web?

Shock of the day in Germany is a TNS study, revealing that only 26% are actively using the information and communication possibilities that 70% access coverage and ever more capable devices should bring into the lives of the population.

It definitely poses a severe competitive disadvantage, especially considering that Germany is being critizised for its export dependency and lack of domestic demand, its high savings rate and low level of capital investments.

But it can also be welcome breathing space for marketers, because lagging internet usage will eventually catch up to international standards and in the meantime, marketers can concentrate on online marketing strategy and concept development instead of rushing to open meaningless twitter and facebook accounts.
